Recording
Though the cornerstone of all music, the recording process is often overlooked. The final product is only as good as the source material, and if a recording starts out sub-par, it imposes extreme limitations on any further step in the process. There are a lot of elements to perfecting the recording process, but the most important is the quality of equipment and the recording engineer.
At Studio 404, we put excruciating detail into recording- with top-notch acoustics and industry-standard equipment and software, all operated by talented engineers who will help fulfill your vision. We believe that a creative should never have to compromise on their work, and our staff pulls no stops.
Production
Production is an essential part of music, as it is the music itself. Though the necessity of production is clear, the process towards getting good production in of itself is much more complex. Production is ultimately a non-linear process, where there is no right or wrong. The genre, style, and sensibilities of the artist all contribute to what becomes the final product, making it an intimidating experience for those that aren’t accustomed to working with producers.
At Studio 404, you can sit down with one of our producers, who will create a piece of production tailored to your wants and needs. Production sessions are no additional cost, and with our network of session musicians, we can help you hire real professionals to add instrumentation and their touch to your tracks, with the guarantee that their work matches our standards.
mastering
Your song has been recorded. Now you’ve mixed it. But then you’re told there’s one more step, mastering. By far the most nebulous and misunderstood element of music, Mastering can be thought of as the “finalizing” of the track.
Back in the day, mastering was a much more concrete job. A mastering engineer would take the final mix, and prepare it for the physical media of choice: vinyl record, cassette, or CD. Mastering in the current era is typically digital mastering, preparing a track for the standards established by the likes of Spotify, Apple, Tidal, and the dozens of other available products across the net. At Studio 404, you don’t have to stress about mastering, since all our mixes include mastering at no extra cost. You can worry less about the finalizing process, and focus more on handling all the other responsibilities of an artist.
Mixing
Your music has been recorded, and while your job might be done, your song definitely isn’t. Before you can show your music to the world, it needs to be turned from demo to mix. When recording at Studio 404, we always make sure you leave with a great-sounding track, but as the word implies, a demo tends to be rough around the edges, often lacking the polish seen on tracks by your favorite artists.
A good mix will take all the elements of a track, and balance them according to the tastes of the artist and the genre they work in. An artist should have a distinct idea of what they want the final product to sound like, but it can be tough to quantify that in a way that’s easy to communicate. At Studio 404, our professional engineers leverage their decades of experience to help create the track you want, realizing your vision in whichever way is best for you, whether you want to just send in a mix, sit down in person, or call in over the internet for a virtual mix session.
Post-production
Did you know that studies have shown poor audio quality is more likely to make someone click off a video as opposed to poor video quality? Audio Post-Production is the process of visual sound design and dialogue re-recording to create a finalized, professional audio track to accompany your video.
At Studio 404, our versatile and experienced team can help you achieve any element of post-production, from sound effects and foley work, dialogue editing, voice re-recording, and on-location services. Our work has been featured on award-winning short films, advertisements, and beyond, bringing our quality of work to the visual medium.
